From Ao Nang we took a speedboat to Koh Yao Yai, it is a pretty big island, but there are hardly any resorts. With a handful of tourists you really get to enjoy the peace and quiet of Thailand. The beach was not the greatest as there was a wall built up to stop the water at a certain point so I never actually swam in the sea. It is a little murky and the "sand" is more mud than sand, at low tide you can walk pretty far out, but the crabs are huge and are everywhere. I let out a girl shriek at least twice.
But regardless of the beach the view was spectacular and the pool was great. You don't realise how much better it is to book accommodation that has a pool, it is so humid and as much as the sea is calm and fantastic to swim in, you still need a break from it every now and then.
This place was amazing and the staff were such lovely people. I named a local stray kitten "mouse", he hung around the restaurant waiting for scraps, he was such a cutey. I miss you mouse.
